Apex Foundation 2026 Copper Coast Retreats, Wallaroo Holiday Park, Yorke Peninsula SA
On the shores of Yorke Peninsula, where the Spencer Gulf stretches out to a wide and generous horizon, five cabins sit ready and waiting. They are modest, comfortable, and beachside — and for families facing the weight of a cancer diagnosis, they are something quite extraordinary: a place to simply be together, away from the hospitals and the appointments and the relentlessness of it all.
Built by riders, given to families
The Copper Coast Retreats are the tangible legacy of the South Australian Postie Bike Ride — nineteen rides, close to two million dollars raised, and a community that has shown up year after year for families doing it tough. The money raised has been used to build and buy five cabins at the Wallaroo Holiday Park, available virtually free of charge to cancer sufferers and their families.
“The idea is for families to have some time out together while facing the challenges of cancer. The support from the Postie Bike riders has been amazing, and the local community is right behind us — offering great discounts and freebies to ensure we maintain accommodation of a high standard.” — Neil Sawley, Apex Life Governor
A sixth cabin — with disabled access
The 2026 Postie Bike Ride proceeds are expected to fund a sixth cabin, this one purpose-built with special access for people living with disability — ensuring the Retreats remain genuinely inclusive for every family that needs them.
Twenty years of Apexians
Behind the cabins is a twenty-year story of dedication. Neil and the volunteers, the riders, the local clubs, the communities of Yorke Peninsula and northern South Australia — all of them part of something that has grown from a quirky idea into a life-changing resource. As Neil puts it simply: “We really have to thank all of the Apexians who have helped out over the last 20 years.”
Well done, South Australian Apex clubs.
