The Apex Foundation is proud to announce a $6,000 grant to Australian tenor Nathan Bryon, supporting his participation in the International Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Latvia — one of the most prestigious young opera competitions in the world.

A voice headed to the world stage

Nathan Bryon hails from Geurie, a small town near Dubbo in regional New South Wales. A recent graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he currently performs at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Germany as winner of the German-Australian Opera Grant, and has been invited to continue for the 2026-27 season.

His upcoming performances include Bruckner’s Te Deum with the Hessisches Staatsorchester Wiesbaden, Gastone in La Traviata at the Internationale Maifestspiele, and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte in the coming season. He will also attend the International Meistersinger Akademie under the direction of Edith Wiens.

A career built on excellence

Nathan recently completed a residency at the Wiener Staatsoper as recipient of the 2024 Michael Byrne Award from the Opera Foundation for Young Australians. He is a San Francisco District Winner of The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (2024), and has received the Melba Opera Trust Dame Heather Begg Memorial Award, the Australian Music Foundation Yvonne Kenny Award, and the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship.

“Support like this makes a huge difference to the trajectory of young Australian artists. I am so grateful.” — Nathan Bryon

Nathan has committed to providing a full report on his experiences at the competition — a report that will also appear in the Foundation’s Annual Report. The board hopes he might consider performing at a future AGM.
